3 Things I wish I Knew When Creating My Social Media Strategy

I had a lot of experience working in real estate marketing, but when I started my own company at the end of 2018, I was faced with the daunting task of creating a social media strategy for my business. Not knowing where to start and not wanting to make any mistakes, I did what most people do – turned to Google. After reading countless articles on how to create an effective social media strategy, there were three points that you heard over and over…

Be Consistent.

Engage Your Audience.

Experiment With Different Techniques.

But the truth is, there’s so much more to creating a social media strategy than just those points. After marketing my own business, and helping my clients grow their real estate business, there are three things I’ve realized you have to do if you want to grow your accounts and generate leads. Here are 3 things I wish I knew when I created my first social media strategy.

Attract Your Ideal Client to Your Channel First

While we all want to dive headfirst into generating leads and making sales, the truth is you need to take the time to grow your account with your ideal client first.

It’s all about building relationships.

That means posting consistently high-quality content for them every day–even if they don’t interact with those posts.

When you take the time to create amazing content that your ideal client can relate to, you’ll slowly see your follower count and engagement rate start to increase.

The more people engage with your account…the easier it becomes when you’re ready to generate leads and start making sales.

Remember to build trust in order to make sales later on down the line.

Find Apps that Help Your Social Media Strategy

If you’re going to take the time to grow your social following and put content out, you want to make sure that your time isn’t wasted. That’s why I’m so glad to have found out about two apps that help me with my social media strategy for my two main social accounts. There are a lot of apps that could help you with each platform, these two are playing a huge role in my current strategy.

Command

Command is an incredible app for those who love generating leads using Instagram. With the Command app, you’re able to understand which analytics are performing the best for you, what time you should be posting, and what some of your best-performing posts are.

In addition to reviewing your profile, you’re able to insert your competitor’s handles to view how their channel is growing as well. It’s also as though you can view their analytics without having access to their profile.

TrendTok

TrendTok is a new app for those who love hanging out on TikTok. With TikTok still being a newer social media platform, getting in front of your ideal client and going viral is much easier compared to Facebook or Instagram.

TrendTok lets you know how songs and sounds are performing on the app, so you can try and jump on trends before they completely go viral. It even breaks the sounds down by categories and gives you a list of songs they think would perform well for your profile.

Write Better Captions

The biggest fail I had when it came to my social media strategy when I first got started not writing engaging captions. There are three parts that should be included in your caption when you want your followers to stop scrolling and take action.

Hook them in.

You have just a few characters to catch the attention of your ideal client, you have to use them wisely.

Ask them a question.

Say something shocking.

Find out if they can relate to a situation.

Provide the Content.

After you’ve hooked them, you need to provide the information that they want. You’ll want to make it easy to read, so be sure to include spaces, and try to keep it concise. When your followers are on social media, they aren’t looking for a long-form piece of content. They want the information and then be able to move on.

Don’t forget a Call to Action.

Include a call to action, an offer, or something that leaves them with the feeling like they need to take action at that moment.

The call to action can be as simple as ‘like this post if you agree’ or pushing them to your profile to opt-in to your email list. Make sure your call to action is clear and tells your audience exactly what you want them to do.

If you can master these three things then there is no way people will be able to scroll past your post without taking some sort of action on it.
